Update:  Takoda has completed his heart worm treatment and has been neutered.  He will be attending adoption events beginning 1 July.

Takoda is good with kids and all dogs.

Takoda has begun his heart worm treatment, receiving his first injection yesterday.  He was an excellent patient and took the injection without issue.  Today he is bright and alert and walking around with his favorite toy.

Takoda is learning different scents to indicate food, water, stairs, toy, etc., so when his vision is lost he will be able to navigate.

Takoda was seen by an Ophthalmologist and has been diagnosed with retinal damage probably due to Retinal Dystrophy.  He has no vision in his right eye, but does have vision in his left.  He most likely will lose his vision in the next 1-2 years.

This condition has not slowed Takoda at all. He is a very smart pup. Takoda has learned the stairs in the home and the deck. After several practice runs, he now jumps into the back of the car.  Takoda has excellent recall and loves to play with his ball.

Takoda has a gentle disposition and loves to be close to you.

Takoda is a sweet and gentle, 2 year old GSD mix.  He was found by Animal Control living under a truck and was initially very skittish.  After a couple of weeks, the timidity has disappeared and Takoda enjoys ear scratches, belly rubs and chewing on a Kong.

Takoda has not yet been neutered because he is heart worm positive. He also has vision issues.  Takoda will be taken to an ophthalmologist to determine the cause of his vision impairment.  This has not stopped him.  He can track a ball that is bounced across the floor and nose the area until he finds it.

Takoda is crate-trained and house broke. He knows sit, come and is learning down. He is very good on leash and rides great in the car.  He is good with other dogs.

Being found as a stray he had no name and Takoda was chosen for it's meaning 'friend to everyone' [Sioux].  And he is.
