Diesel is a great dog. He loves children, has five dog friends that he likes to play with, loves walks, and loves to play. He would do exceptionally well as a solo dog, but would also do well with a friend with proper time and introduction. Right now he lives in an apartment with me and my two 5 year olds. He will bark once to alert me if someone is in the stairwell outside our apartment door or if we are all playing keep away, but does not routinely bark. I always introduce him to new people when they come in, and have him sit until introduced (out of personal habit from other dogs I have owned). Diesel does well with this, and after one introduction he has always been happy to see people return. He has been over to a friend's house where they have five free roaming cats. The cats and he mostly ignored each other, with exception of one younger cat wanted to play. They interacted well. Diesel has exhibited a prey drive for rabbits in the area when we are out on a morning run, but after a few corrections, he listens very well and will acknowledge the rabbits but not try to lunge after them. Diesel was well adjusted enough to go and play at a local dog park. Unfortunately he is not suited for dog parks any longer. While walking Diesel, some neighbors were leaving their apartment with their two lab mixes. Unfortunately they did not have their dogs on a leash and they attempted to attack Diesel. I picked him up and they got ahold of their dogs. Since then, Diesel has made only four new dog friends which were after careful introductions and he has loved to enjoy playing with each of them. He will not tolerate strange dogs that he has not been introduced to. I have had one foster with Diesel and they did well living together. While he does well in an apartment, he would also do well in a home with a fenced yard. He has been in a yard that had a low 4 foot fence with other neighbor dogs and did not try to jump the fence. In apartment living he gets a minimum of one run per day (usually morning) and two long walks per day. Any less than that minimum and he would likely become lethargic. He does not chew. He is trained to not be on furniture. He loves swimming, sprinklers, playing in the rain, snow, and playing keep away with sticks, balls, ropes, etc... He has such a light heart. He has also been on the Appalachian Trail with me and two friends and did well on the trail.
