German Shepherd Dog : : Female (spayed) : : Adult
9/18/24. Sammy is a female GSD from a shelter. She is being treated for Lyme. She is not quite 3 yrs old. She weighs 67 lbs, is spayed, chipped, up to date on shots and on preventives. Sammy is being fostered in Arlington 22204. She will typically participate in the Potomac Yard Adoption events in Alexandria. Approved adopters may contact arivederci@aol.com. Sammy’s history is unknown. A few months ago she was dumped at a shelter in WV and that’s all I know about her. I suspect she was someone’s dog because she had no problems with stairs and knows a few commands. She is also sensitive to raised voices and sudden movements which tells me that maybe she wasn’t always treated with the utmost kindness. Regardless, Sammy has not lost her trust in humans. She quickly adapted to her new surroundings and interacts with people and dogs without issues. Once out of her shell, she can be playful, but if the other dog communicates that she’s getting too frisky, she will back down. With people she can be a bit of a love bug and both the Vet and Vet-tech fell in love with her. Although her leash manners aren’t perfect, she is improving. She is crate trained and potty trained. Sammy has some prey drive and occasionally lunges at wild life during walks. For this reason, I would not recommend her for households with cats. Please don’t ask me to test her with cats, I’m not in a position to do that. Her approach with humans has been curious but gentle, so I think she would do ok with children under supervision. All in all a very nice dog, probably a good candidate for Therapy Dog training if you’re into that.
