8/1/14  Imagine a two year old dog that didn't know the touch of grass. Nene is a beautiful 64 pound GSD who lived in a metal bottom kennel and was used for breeding purposes. She is a big puppy who wants to please people more than anything. She forms quick bonds and just wants to be loved. She's come a long way in only a week, and is beginning to find a self confidence she's never known. She absolutely loves everyone, and children who lay on her like a pillow get loads of kisses. She looks to other dogs to show her how to act, and has only had to be corrected once to understand her place in the pack. She even gets along with our chickens! She wants to please her people to such an extent, she will go against her natural instincts to do so. 

Nene (We've been calling her Maggie) is learning how to get along inside a home for the first time. She lays quietly all night, and will sleep nearest the door, in case you get up...so you won't forget her before you leave. She has had to learn steps, even the two on the front porch were a big hurdle to get over. She braved them the first night with coaxing and persistence and now will go up and down (clumsily) at her leisure. 

She has no issue with the crate, and will go in willingly and stay quietly. It took her a day or two to realize she isn't expected to stay in the crate for the rest of her life and is always very excited to have her people let her out. Get the towel ready for her face when she drinks, she's getting better everyday, but still leaves a bit of a puddle behind. She's getting used to eating from a bowl, instead of off the ground as well.

Nene has a double ear infection that is clearing up nicely. She needs to be spayed and will be attending most adoption events at Gainesville Petsmart.
