UPDATE 12/26/14
I was able to test Nitro a bit with cats at our last adoption event.  We walked by several cats in cages, and he ignored them all.  When some of the kittens started to hiss at him, he backed away quickly.  I believe he would be fine with cats, especially dog-savvy cats.  


Nitro is one of the most strikingly handsome German Shepherd Dogs I have ever seen.  He is a stunning Black and Tan neutered male GSD.  He is a stocky, large dog who needs to lose a few more pounds to hit his healthy weight range of 100 lbs.  He is completely housebroken and trustworthy alone in the house.  He gets along with all dogs, big and small, and is good with kids of all ages.  We are not sure about cats, but he could well get along with a dog-savvy cat.  He doesn’t show much prey drive, although he will chase deer.   He is 10 years old, but don’t let yourself fall prey to ageism… this dog is active and healthy loves to have adventures every day.  He loves to play ball and really enjoys having his tennis balls around him in the house.  He likes to hike in the woods, but his true love is car rides.  This dog is a car buff.  He loves, loves, loves to be in the car for a ride every day. 

Nitro is very smart and personable.  His owner had to relinquish him when her life changed too much for her to keep up with him.  He has been well cared for and loved all his life.  Nitro’s foster dad is also his new vet, and he says that Nitro could easily pass for a 6- or 7- year old dog.  He runs, walks, does stairs, and jumps in the car (and on the couch) easily.  He needs a brush-up on his training skills, but he comes when called and likes to stay close to home.  He pulls when on leash, and will need more training in that area.
