Meet Eowyn! She is a lovely purebred GSD with rare silver coloring whose still-young life has been a little in flux. She is a very smart girl with a high energy level who at a little over a year, is still very much a puppy. She bounds and runs like a puppy - all paws and legs and barely coordinated body. Her ears, which are super soft, are highly expressive - when both stand, up she is at attention; when only one is up, she is curious; and when they are both down, she wants to cuddle. She loves to give kisses and still has puppy breath. She takes her time when she eats pausing to think deep thoughts about the economy, poetry, and climate change - did I mention she is very smart?! Eowyn wants to please, but is not always sure how so we have started basic obedience training to get her ready for her forever home.
I took her to my trainer for an evaluation prior to starting her training. He believes that, like most rescues, she needs confidence and stability. She can easily get both with effort, consistency, and a sincere dedication to helping this girl reach her full potential. He believes her highly trainable and in our first lesson, she quickly began to catch on to sit, down, and recall at the end of her lead. She now plops down whenever she is trying to be good - sometimes this is a puppy sit with floppy legs, others it is a grown-up sit. We are starting to work together off-leash and she is taking to the freedom like a champ.
She is crate and potty-trained. She rides well in the car and is learning not to jump when greeting hello. She gets along well with dogs and loves trips to the dog park where she will play then come back to me for a check in. She is a fantastic running buddy and enjoys an invigorating hike. She is still a bit wary of strangers - most especially men - but given time and a proper introduction she does warm up. I believe these are symptoms of her confidence issues and once she feels safe and understands her place in the pack - I anticipate these will subside.
At this time, I do believe she will be best with someone with breed experience. She has a high prey drive so would do best only with medium to larger dogs - her current best friend is a medium pit bull mix. She is good with kids, but doesn't know her own size and strength so grown children or children used to big dogs only please. At this point in her life, leaving her by herself for long periods of time is not ideal so doggy daycare or a companion animal is her ideal situation.
Eowyn is la typical, exuberant, GSD puppy looking for a forever home who will be with her through her ups and downs as she matures and turns into the fantastic companion she is meant to be.
